French Language & Global Study (F.L.A.G.S.) - Elementary French Generalists
The University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Education presents a new teacher education cohort option for those interested in teaching French in elementary school settings. Candidates may not speak French fluently but are able to communicate at a rudimentary level and are interested in developing language proficiency as well as the methodological skills to teach and inspire others to learn the language.
The program starts in July 2008 with a five-week summer immersion experience at a French-Canadian university (eligible for provincially-administered federal funding). In September, students take the regular coursework for elementary generalists conducted mainly in English but including two courses, EDUC 316 and LLED 324, conducted 50 percent in French. The practicum takes place in generalist classrooms with core French as a specialty teaching area delivered to several classes in the school.
Federal funding available through the Explore! program.
